Shakura S'Aida
Shakura S'Aida has been touring the world for over twenty years, touching audiences with her powerful voice. Endowed with undeniable charisma and a human rights activist, her artistic work reflects what connects us: love, family, life, and death. "I believe we all have a responsibility to look out for one another," says the Toronto-based artist. "I see, create, and use music as a means to bring people together."
A central figure in the Toronto music scene, this Brooklyn-born, Swiss-raised artist has not only had an international musical career but has also excelled on the stage as the creator of the Nina Simone tribute, "The Nina Project," and in screen roles.
Shakura's career took off in 2008 with a triumphant performance at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where she placed second, competing against over 100 bands from over 20 countries. Since then, her touring schedule has taken her to over 30 countries and into the hearts of thousands of music lovers.
Ten years after Time, Shakura returns with "Hold on to Love," sharing the producer's chair alongside Donna Grantis (Prince/3rd Eye Girl), Keb' Mo,' and Roger Costa (Jeff Healey). The new album features collaborations with international artists, including Eric Gales, Lee Oskar, Terra Lightfoot, Kyla Charter, Larnell Lewis, and many more.
